Anthony Mires Named KSTC COO

The Kentucky Science & Technology Corporation (KSTC) has appointed Anthony Mires as its new chief operations officer (COO), reinforcing the organization’s commitment to driving innovation-based economic growth for Kentuckians. Mires, who has been with KSTC since 2011, is being promoted from his current role as executive director of AdvanceKentucky, a statewide initiative accelerating access to and success in advanced STEM coursework for Kentucky students.

As COO, Mires will oversee KSTC’s portfolio of programs, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission to cultivate knowledge, talent and innovation across Kentucky. The move supports KSTC’s recent organizational growth and a 54% increase in employees over the past three years.

“It’s an honor to step into this role at KSTC. After 14 years with the organization, I’ve seen firsthand how our programs create opportunities for Kentuckians,” said Mires. “I look forward to building on KSTC’s strong foundation and delivering an even greater impact across Kentucky.”
As executive director of AdvanceKentucky, Mires played a pivotal role in expanding training for more than 6,000 teachers and supporting over 155,000 student enrollments in advanced coursework including Advanced Placement (AP), dual credit, computer science and engineering courses. Prior to joining KSTC, he was an AP Biology teacher at Barren County High School in Glasgow, KY, where he was recognized as a National Math and Science Initiative All-American Teacher of the Year for Science.

KSTC CEO Terry Samuel emphasized how Mires’ leadership will reinforce the organization’s mission.
“The COO role is essential to accelerating KSTC’s vision to strengthen Kentucky’s competitiveness in high-growth technology and economic development,” said Samuel. “Anthony brings more than a decade of experience in program leadership with outstanding results, and his expertise will ensure our programs are positioned to make this vision a reality.”
